SCC Smart Sensor Cable Payout Measurement System

The Hydrographic Survey Products SCC Ver. 4 is an automated, cable payout indicator system, specifically designed for the offshore survey and Oceanographic industries. It is ideally suited to measure the cable layback of Side Scan Sonar, Magnetometer, and Sub-Bottom Profiler tow fish as well as a wide range of Oceanographic sensors and corer systems. All counting and processor functions are integrated into the sensor itself, so costs have been reduced, whilst retaining all the required capability of higher priced systems. By offering the sensor alone, a very cost-effective upgrade path is available for users with existing, non-instrumented sheave wheels. The sensor may be fitted to almost any sheave wheel or supplied fitted to a wheel of the customer’s specifications.

A number of magnets, attached to the wheel, are used to measure movement and direction of the wheel and hence movement of the cable as it is deployed or retrieved. The sensor is environmentally sealed with waterproof connections, making it ideal for harsh oceanographic environments. The Display / Interface Unit option provides a very simple to operate display of the cable deployed, cable line speed and an RS232 output as well as providing power to the sensor.

The urethane jacketed deck cable is terminated with IP 67 connectors and can be supplied in any length.

The Version 4 sensor can be installed on most Sheave Blocks from 6 to 36-inch diameter.

Standard Wired Accessories

SCC Winch Display

The SCC Winch Display is a simple, compact water resistant display that can be added to any SCC Cable Payout system. The winch display is designed to be installed close to or onto an oceanographic type winch.

The SCC Winch Display can be installed between the SCC sensor (mounted on a sheave wheel) and the SCC Display / Interface unit (located inside the instrument room) or as a stand-alone display.

When used in conjunction with the standard SCC Display / Interface a second deck cable is required or if cable length permits, the existing deck cable can be cut and re-terminated.

When used alone, a source of 12V dc power is required.

The SCC Winch Display uses a 3.2” organic light emitting display OLED which provides high brightness and wide viewing angle whilst requiring modest power.

SCC Sensor USB Interface with UPS

Allows direct connection between SCC Sensor and USB equipped computer. Integrated uninterruptible power allows counting to be maintained when computer is disconnected, rebooted or moved. UPS is charged vis the USB when available. Duration unconnected is at least 2 hours.

Deck Cable

The deck cable connects power and data from the display or computer to the sensor.

The outer jacket is constructed of polyurethane offering superior abrasion and water resistance.

The deck cable can be supplied in any length and terminated with a female IP67 connector at the sensor (wet) end and 4 pin male XLR connector at the inbound end.

Spec:
Nominal breaking Strength of 480lbs
Outside Diameter 0.378”
20 AWG conductors

Bluetooth Systems

Bluetooth

The SCC Ver 4 BT sensor replaces the power/data deck cable with an internal LiPo battery and a Bluetooth short range transceiver. With the addition of an SCC Active BT antenna the standard Display/Interface may be used with the SCC BT sensor. The active antenna is supplied with a 25 ft cable enabling the standard Bluetooth range to be increased and provide line of sight to the sensor.

Alternatively, any Bluetooth capable device may be used to display data from the sensor and to configure and reset the sensor.

Like the Standard SCC sensor, the SCC BT sensor may be installed on most sheaves from 6 to 36-inch diameter and can be supplied as a turn key system or the sensor alone to be installed on customer owned sheave blocks. All calibration parameters are stored in nonvolatile memory.

Battery duration is at least 24 hours between charges. A USB charger is supplied with each SCC BT sensor.

Bluetooth Systems Accessories

Bluetooth Active Antenna

The Hydrographic Survey Products SCC BT Active Antenna is designed to increase the range of the Blue Tooth sensor to the host BT system (typically laptop, Smart phone or PC). The Active Antenna allows Blue Tooth reception from inside an enclosed wheelhouse or instrument room. A legacy RS232 interface is provided if the host system is not equipped with BT capability. If required the Active Antenna may be connected directly to the SCC Display / Interface Unit, which provide both power and Data I/O to the Active Antenna.

The Antenna is provided with a 50’ cable and sealed for outside marine use.

The Active Antenna can be mounted on a 5/8 X 11 threaded antenna stub.

Integrated Display

SCC Ver 4 Display Sensor

The SCC Ver 4 Display Sensor is a version of the standard SCC sensor that replaces the wired or Bluetooth interface with a small OLED display. The SCC-D version requires no external displays, interfaces, or power. When installed on a sheave wheel it will display cable deployed in real time.

· Simplified mounting requiring a 1⅝ “hole and 4 X #8 machine screws.

· The SCC-D can be installed on sheave wheels from 6 to 36 inches

· Easy configuration, calibration and battery charging via USB.

· Battery powered with duration of at least 24 hours under normal use.

· High contrast daylight readable OLED display.

· Sensor can be reset from the sensor itself.

· Auto dimming display to save battery power.

· Readout in Feet or Meters.

· Same physical format as all other Ver 4 sensors.

· Hermetically sealed for use in harsh and wet environments.

The SCC-D is a completely self-contained sensor used to measure the cable length as it is deployed or recovered. This sensor may be useful, when for example, the cable needs to be deployed to a preset length or when a very fast and simple mobilization is required.

Other uses are small boat operations where additional cables or devices is undesirable.

GPS & Telemetry

Positioning and Telemetry Unit (PTU) and receiver

The Hydrographic Survey Products, Positioning and Telemetry Unit (PTU) is a simple, low cost battery powered positioning device. The mobile unit features a GPS receiver, Telemetry transmitter and LiPol battery pack with a splash proof enclosure. The telemetry operates in the UHF line-of-sight band with 1W maximum transmit power. USB provides power and data I/O to the receiver.
